Brisbane Valley Airshow

27th - 28th August 2016

Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield is proud to invite all aviation enthusiasts, pilots and public alike, to the Brisbane Valley Airshow which is being held on the 27th - 28th August 2016.

A massive weekend is planned with a full airshow featuring a wide variety of aircraft from South East Queensland. Expect to see aircraft types including military aircraft, warbirds representative of WW1 and WW2, vintage, aerobatic and homebuilt aeroplanes as well as a wide cross section of general aviation aircraft including helicopters and models.

There will be many stalls, static displays, car clubs, ex-military vehicle displays and other exhibits in keeping with a major fly-in. A jumping castle and face painting will keep the kids entertained for hours.

A wide range of food and drinks are available on both days. Saturday night will feature live entertainment and a crowd pleasing roast dinner so that everyone can sit back, relax and enjoy. Onsite camping is encouraged in the dedicated caravan camping area.

But the good news is that from 8:00pm on Saturday evening, for just $10.00 per person, everyone is invited to enjoy some quiet drinks, great company and fine music from the "Jazz Australis Trio".

Pilot Guidance

For the duration of the airshow a NOTAM will be in effect.

In addition to the NOTAM, pilots attending the airshow are requested to download the Guidance Notes for arrivals and departures, UNICOM frequency and operating hours, as well as general information regarding aircraft parking and camping.

RAAus Forum

Sunday 28th at 9:00am in the BVSAC Clubrooms

The CEO and Assistant Operations Manager will be hosting a Members' Forum at 9am on Sunday the 28th of August at the Brisbane Valley Sport Aviation Club.
RAAus staff will also be selling merchandise and will be available to answer questions during the Brisbane Valley Airshow the day before (Saturday 27 August).

OZ Runways at the Airshow

This one's for all the pilots!! Come and meet Scott & Dean from Oz Runways. They will be ready to answer all the questions you have about their superb tablet based navigation software.

SteadFast Yak-3 and Mustang P-51D at the Airshow

Both these Southeast Queensland based warbirds will be at the Brisbane Valley Airshow. In the foreground is SteadFast, 9 times world record holding Yak-3. Behind SteadFast is The Flying Undertaker, the only North American P-51D Mustang in Australia. Fighter Pilot Adventure Flights are sure to wow the crowd with dizzying aerobatics and fly pasts. Not to be missed!!

BVSAC Fun Fly Poker Run

Absolutely perfect flying conditions set the stage for the best ever Brisbane Valley Sport Aviation Club's annual Fun Fly Poker Run. In this game of good fortune, the players find their way to several airfields in the district, selecting a random card in an envelope at each location. The winning poker hand is completed back at Watts Bridge with two cards drawn by the house.

Competition was fierce with nearly 50 aviators (flying no less than 35 aircraft) battling it out for first place. But as always there can only be one winner. And so it was that Bill Coman from Redcliffe, flying a Cessna 182G, took the coveted trophy and became the undisputed BVSAC Fun Fly Poker Champion for 2016.

Now as it happens, Bill has his Cessna outfitted with several cameras so we can all ride along with him and his co-pilot Selina as they go round the course picking up their winning hand.

AAC-QC Christmas in July

And as the sun set over the airfield the Australian Aerobatics Club - Queensland Chapter opened their clubroom doors for Christmas in July. Great atmosphere, great wining and dining, some live entertainment and just the odd tall story to be told.
Could a day at an airfield get any better than this ??

Building Activity at the Airfield

It's been quite a while since there has been any major building activity on the airfield. However, over the last couple of months all that has changed with two major projects taking shape.

The Brisbane Valley Sport Aviation Club goes from strength to strength with an ambitious expansion of the club's meeting rooms. BVSAC President Wayne Petty, ably assisted by a small group of hard working volunteers, is now putting the finishing touches on the building's extension. This will allow the club to more fully contribute to events held on the airfield and offer additional space and facilities to club's expanding membership.

Meanwhile, in the chalet precinct, Jim and Viv Peters have engaged the services of the Watts Bridge builder of choice Kev Werner to erect their dream hangar and air chalet. Lots of steelwork, lots of concrete and lots of meticulous hard work. Already looking marvelous even at this early stage. Can't wait to see the finished building.

Queensland Government Equipment Grants

Behind the scenes there is a long list of new projects and endless ongoing maintenance required to keep the airfield looking neat and tidy. Having the appropriate equipment can make all the difference when it comes to getting the job done well. To assist "not for profit" community organisations such as Watts Bridge, there are a number of grants made through the Queensland Government Gambling Community Benefit Fund making funds available for the purchase of the much needed equipment.

Watts Bridge BoM regularly submits applications for these grants and over the years has had a fair degree of success. Recent acquisitions made under the grants scheme include an hydraulic post hole digger and augers, a star picket driver, a "D" Handle brush cutter and a petrol powered cement mixer.
